About

Teaching experience

  • Stewart has been an enthusiastic GCSE, A Level and IB Chemistry teacher for more than 30 years in the UK as well as overseas. After a brief spell teaching at secondary schools in Surrey, he started his overseas teaching career as a Fulbright Exchange teacher to Portland, Oregon where he taught Honors Chemistry and AP Chemistry in an inner city High School. From there he moved on to international schools in Costa Rica, Paris, Oman, Brunei, Uruguay and China. Apart from teaching Chemistry in both English and Spanish, he has taught Physics, Environmental Systems & Societies, and even a bit of Drama and Film Studies!

Examining experience

  • Stewart has been an examiner in IB Chemistry and also A Level Chemistry since 2015.

Other

  • Stewart is a graduate of Homerton College, Cambridge where he studied Chemistry and Education. He is a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry and has written articles for the School Science Review and co-authored an atlas of scientific maps for the Science and Technology in Society project. 

  •  Early in his career, he went on an industrial secondment to an Organic synthesis lab at Astra Zeneca in Berkshire where he worked with a team developing novel fungicides for use on rice plants, as well as having the opportunity to carry out research on chemiluminescence. As a long-standing Head of Department, Stewart brings a wealth of experience to creating Topic Questions and revision materials for Save My Exams.
