At Save My Exams, the foundation of our commitment to excellence lies in the calibre of our Content Creators. We take pride in assembling a team of seasoned professionals with extensive experience as teachers and examiners. Combined, our content authors have more than 200 years of direct classroom experience! 

Each member of our content team brings a wealth of practical knowledge and expertise to the site, ensuring that the revision materials we create are not just theoretically sound, but are grounded in the nuanced understanding of educational practice.

That's why we've implemented a robust Content Quality Index (CQI) to ensure that our revision materials not only meet but exceed the highest standards of quality, accuracy, and educational value.

What is the Content Quality Index (CQI)?

The CQI is more than just a set of internal standards; it's a commitment to delivering reliable, trustworthy, and genuinely beneficial content to our users. It serves as a beacon guiding every step of our content creation process.

The 10 Pillars of Quality Criteria

We have identified 10 crucial criteria to maintain the highest standards. While all are essential, we'd like to emphasise the first three, forming the backbone of our commitment to excellence:

Specificity: tailoring content to perfection

Our content is designed with laser precision, utilising the correct terms, command words, and exam-specific insights. We deliberately exclude unnecessary information, ensuring complete alignment with exam boards and their exam requirements.

Accuracy: the cornerstone of our commitment

Every equation, formula, fact, and figure is meticulously reviewed with the goal of achieving 100% accuracy. We employ a rigorous review process, correcting any reported errors within 7 working days. Our dedication ensures a flawless learning experience for our users. While we recognise that mistakes sometimes slip through (we’re only human, after all!), we’re committed to correcting errors as soon as they are found.

Conciseness: sharp and focused for exam success

We embrace brevity without compromising depth. Bullet points and concise sentences are employed strategically, keeping the content clear and minimal. Unnecessary information is omitted, ensuring our resources are a valuable tool for efficient exam preparation. We want students to get exactly what they need, without giving them a heavier cognitive load.

Correctness: Precision in language and spelling

Spelling and grammar are meticulously reviewed, following recognised best practices. We acknowledge that perfection is challenging, but we are committed to constant improvement. We use a systematic approach to reviewing all materials before they are published. 

Consistency: A seamless experience across the board

Consistency is key to effective learning. We do our best to ensure uniformity in course-specific elements and across all Save My Exams features. This principle extends to the reasoning behind pedagogical features, creating a cohesive learning experience.

Sensitivity: A global perspective with empathy

Our content is crafted with a global audience in mind. While not censoring for political correctness, we aim for inclusivity, avoiding content that may be insensitive. However, as always, exam-specific requirements take precedence, ensuring broad accessibility.

Structure: Logical progression for effective learning

Logical and linear content progression is our byword! Well-structured headings, appropriate cross-references, and other structural elements enhance the learner's experience, so we make sure to use them wisely. Accessibility features (such as alt-text for images and subtitles for videos) further contribute to a structured learning environment.

Formatting: Appealing visuals without compromise

Our UX leads handle the visual elements, but content creators ensure correct formatting is applied to all of our content, for an uncluttered appearance. We strive to meet WCAG AA standards, providing a visually pleasing and accessible learning environment. We don’t like clutter in our content! 

Tone: The voice of a trusted expert

We adopt a formal tone of voice—authoritative, professional, and trustworthy. Striking a balance between friendly and reliable, our tone ensures an engaging yet respectful learning experience.

Pitch: Tailoring content to the learner

Adapting language levels to globally recognised CEFR standards, we tailor content for different age groups and language proficiency levels. Our content is pitched at the right level for our learners for each and every course we publish, which helps us to ensure that our content is accessible to the widest possible audience.

Assessing and Ensuring Quality

Our commitment to quality is not just a promise but a measurable reality. Every piece of content is thoroughly reviewed by at least two Content Creators during the authoring process. The CQI is periodically assessed by content experts, to ensure that our standards are up-to-date.  

We assess content at the course level, as well as the individual page level, to ensure that our resources maintain the highest standards throughout their lifecycle. We also use the CQI to evaluate the performance of content creators, providing targeted feedback for improvement or recognition of excellence.
