Education and Teaching Experience
Deb studied Theatre and Communication Studies at Lancaster University, and received her teaching qualification, Post-Graduate Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring and Masters in Education from The University of Wolverhampton. She has worked in FE colleges and education providers in Birmingham and the West Midlands since 2005, and has held numerous roles, including Senior Lecturer, Quality Manager and Teaching and Learning Mentor.
Published work and awards
Deb won a City and Guilds’ Medal for Excellence for her work in quality improvement and assurance, has contributed to publications by City and Guilds and has had research published in the journal Research in Post-Compulsory Education.
Student and Teacher Success
Deb has used her passion for supporting students and designing engaging and innovative educational content to improve outcomes for a range of varied student cohorts. As a curriculum manager, she led a team to achieve some of the best GCSE English Language re-sit outcomes for post-16 learners nationally, and has designed and delivered staff development projects on various aspects of pedagogy, including ways in which to better promote and embed literacy and numeracy across curriculums, digital innovation in literacy and ESOL provision and on effective coaching and mentoring in education. She has been consistently nominated for internal teaching awards by her students, and specialises in working with young people and adults for whom education has been a challenge.
