Biological Catalysts
- Enzymes are protein molecules which speed up chemical reactions
- Enzymes are therefore also classified as biological catalysts
- The binding site (also called active site) of an enzyme is extremely specific
- This means that only those molecules (substrates) with the exact same shape will bind to the enzyme
- Enzymes are therefore said to be highly specific as they catalyse only specific reactions
