Paper 1 is a 2-hour paper worth 110 marks and it accounts for 61.1% of the total IGCSE Edexcel Chemistry. It covers the core content from the four topic areas across the specification, which are: – Principles of Chemistry – Inorganic Chemistry – Physical Chemistry – Organic Chemistry

It comprises two papers, Chemistry Paper 1 and Chemistry Paper 2. Paper 1 assesses the core content of the specification and accounts for 61.1% of the total IGCSE. It is worth 110 marks and is a 2-hour paper. Paper 2 assesses all the content and accounts for 38.9% of the total IGCSE. It is worth 70 marks and is a 1-hour 15-minute paper. Both papers are a mixture of multiple-choice questions, short-answer questions, calculations and extended open-response questions.
