Formation of the Oceans

Specification Point 8.20:
  • Explain how condensation of water vapour formed oceans
  • The early atmosphere contained large amounts of water vapour.
  • While the surface of the Earth was still very hot the water remained in the gaseous state.
  • When conditions cooled sufficiently, the water vapour later condensed and fell to the surface of the Earth, forming the oceans.
